I just came home from hospital today, had the gastric sleeve surgery monday. Every time I swallow a small sip I hav ea sharp intense pain in my esophagus. My surgeon said this is normal but doesn’t happen very often. Has anyone else experienced this? It makes taking my medications very painful.

Yes. I had this. I found it was less if I just had ice chips and sugar free popsicles. I let them slowly melt and then swallow tiny sips. After a week it started getting better and much better after 2 weeks. You probably have swelling. Just take your fluids slowly. Good luck.

It is probably swelling combined with abrasions from the breathing tube you had during the surgery. If you are allowed to have liquid Tylenol, try taking some to ease the pain, and it will coat your throat a little.
