Was banded on Tuesday 11/6/07 By Dr.Sheldon Randal at the Lawrence memorial hospital in Medford Ma.DR. Randall has been great only complaint is amount of time in the waiting room.

Because of my sleep apnia I was put in ICU after surgery.

first question is has anyone been put in ICU for similar reasons.???

2nd question is about pain, Ive been experiencing pain in my sholder and in my foot any ideas.

I walked today about 15 minutes

Just a note to say the staff at the hospital were tremendous, all the nurses from the operating room came to see me after the surgery and the staff in the ICU were also excellent.

COngradulations on being banded. The gas pains will go away soon. It takes time for the gas to get out of the body. I was banded 7 weeks agao and had pains for almost 6 weeks and doing fine now. As far as ICU they might had wanted to monitor you because of your sleep Apnea and other medical conditions you might of had. How long were you in ICU for? Also they might not have any room in the other part. Not really sure. Did the doctor say anything as to why you were in there?

I was banded 8 days ago and spent my first night in ICU and 2nd night in the ward. I have untreated sleep apnea. I was told all the lap band patients are put into ICU on their first night as a precaution... there were 3 of us that day. By the way I'm from Sydney Australia.

I'm a nurse and I work in ICU. Most patients with sleep apnoea are put into ICU for closer monitoring than wards.

Shoulder tip pain is very common after laparoscopic surgery - surgeons inject carbon dioxide gas into the space where your abdominal organs are so that they can see what they are doing. The shoulder pain is referred pain from the gas.

Looking forward to finding my own surgeon and becoming a bandit,too.

maybe in Australia they do put all of them in I.C.U. but in the states many of us have the surgery in the morning and sent home by 1:00 same day. Im thinking that maybe only Sleep Apnea or people with other complications get put in I.C.U.

I am from England but was banded in Belgium and was put in ICU as my breathing was a little shallow when in recovery due to Apnea

I thought so too but was told they do it as a precaution... maybe my surgeon's office only. I am amazed at how quickly people are sent home in the US... I needed to be looked after on that first night... think I was being a "big" baby. :eek:

Newbie here.Hi! I was wondering if one week is too soon to go back to work at a sitting job?

I was back at work after 1 week but still sore and tired. Depends how well you do after surgery. Mine is a desk job as well.

I had surgery on Friday Dec 21) and am back to work today with no problems (Wednesday). Of course, I work from home in the "dungeon" and am a computer geek . Little sore from sitting up but otherwise, I'm cool. I vaccumed yesterday with no pain meds so I am zipping along. I think you just need to listen to body and go from there.

I have sleep apnea also (10 out of 20 on settings for CPAP) and I was in surgery at 1:30pm and home by 6:30-7pm. My guess is that they probably decide by each case and take everything into consideration.

I too went back to work in 1 week. I also sit at a desk and work on the computer all day. It still is slow getting up from the chair and moving around, but once your going its ok. I was banded 12/3/07 and feel great. Now if this weight keeps coming off, it will be something to talk about. Good luck, your going to do fine.
