I am currently 24 hours post op and I have to admit that I did not believe all the posts I read about the “Horrible Gas Pains”. Well I’m here to tell you that the struggle is REAL. I am having horrible gas pains and my Surgeon does not believe in Barca tics for pain management so all I have is Tylenol. I haven’t seen any positive effects of walking yet but I am still giving it the old college try. Someone tell me that it gets better. Haha

Did they give you an incentive spirometer? Are you using it?
It does get better, just walk as much as you can and use that spirometer every hour!

Yes I have the Spirometer. Probably not using it as much as I should.

It helps out greatly! Also, taking as deep a breath as you can, then hold it a bit while compressing the air slightly (bare down into it) will help force the gas out. Just don't go too hard, the object is just to increase the pressure forcing the gas to sublimate into the blood not to rip anything.

I’m 6 Days post op and the gas pain didn’t really subside until day 3.

Try some Gas-X strips. They seemed to help me through the gas pains.

It does get better! The first 3 days are hard, no way around it. I took GasX strips 24 hours after surgery which I found gave some relief. Try to drink something hot like herbal tea because the heat helps the gas come up

Use your Spirometer. Don't ignore it. Important you use it every day for the first week.

Congrats on a successful sleeve :)

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
