What I will need for the few days following vsg

Recommended Posts

My surgery is in just 2 days and I have a few items already that I believe I will need for after surgery so I can be prepared.

I have Miralax, Tums, chewable vitamins, broth, a small cup, Isopure zero carb (40g Protein clear liquid), unflavored Protein Powder, comfortable clothes.

I was thinking of getting gauze today but idk if I will need it.

Can you tell me what how you prepared, what you thought you needed but didn't?

What you needed but didn't have?

What you wish you had looking back?

Thank you!

Make sure you have a heating pad! It was my best friend for the first couple of days. The gas pain was a real bummer, but the heating pad helped. Also sugar free popsicles were my go to....

i didn’t pack any of my Vitamins, I wouldn’t have been able to tolerate them the first couple of days. I just started them yesterday and my surgery was on june 5.

Also, an ice pack! There is one incision that starts to get really sore on or about day 3. It’s the larger of the incisions, on your left side and it’s where they take the stomach out of. It hurts! But the ice helps immensely.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
