50% weight loss

When they say a patient will have between 50% - 60% weight loss what exactly do they mean... I have never been able to get a straight answer for this question.

Its totally up to you. There's no magic cut off line where your body shuts down and it becomes impossible or exceedingly difficult to lose more.

I'd harbour a guess that its more to do with a lot of attitudes. People become fat for many reasons and as a response to many problems in their lives and those dont magically go away just because you lose weight. So it stands to reason that whlst the band will cause spontaneous and automatic weight loss in a lot of people that that will only take them so far and many simply do not have the personal resources to get the rest off.

And of course, there's people who have medical problems that predispose them to obesity, things such as polycystic ovaries and thyroid problems, there's people who unfortunately lose their bands due to slippage and erosion, people who just for some unknown reason cannot tolerate the band and have all sorts of trouble getting good restriction without becoming over restricted etc etc. All you can really do is pray that you dont fall into one of those categories.

And if you dont, well then its up to you. Work hard enough, physically, emotionally AND mentally, you'll lose 100% of your weight.

Ok im an idot, I can not figure out what my percentage of weight loss has been so far, start 234, current 195, goal 145.. Can anyone please help??? Thanks a bunch...:D

schampange, this is how you compute it:

start - goal = 234 - 145 = 89

start - current = 234 - 195 = 39

percent of goal lost = 39/89 = 43.8%

Hi Keri -- thank you as well. As far as fills go I a have had 5 and I am 7 months on November 9th.

Keep up your great work!

Thanks Gina, was your weight loss dramatic in the first few months? I keep wondering if imnot on track, it has been so fustrating, since i got my first fill i have gotten tighter and tighter especially in the am, the only time i can realy eat is at night.. I am loosing, but it is very slow.. Anyone, gina , had this prob?

Thanks Keri

Keri -- you are doing TREMENDOUS.

I lost 29lbs (Sept-Mar) my personal trial can I do that mindset-no soda's-my biggest fear! And of course low carb and minimal rice/pasta/bread and such.

I scheduled surgery Mar and got re-dedicated to dieting - lost additional 10 lbs.

I lost 7 lbs during my optional pre-op diet -- I drank 3 shakes (only 750 cals a day).

And the balance since surgery - as follows:

1st month - 11lbs

2nd month - 6lbs

3rd month - 6lbs

4th month - 6lbs

5th month - 10lbs

6th month - 6lbs

almost to 7th month - as of today - No loss maybe 1lb gain.

Hope this helps.

And yes I am tight in the mornings and loosen as the day goes on.

:)

Hey Gina, Thanks a bunch!!! I am not shure what i've lost each month, I was so affraid to get on the scale the first few months after banding, i've done so many of the yo yo diets that i just figured it would be bad.. I lost 16lbs post op diet, then another 25 so far i guess, i haven't been on the scale for a few weeks again.. All i know is my clothes are starting to get bagy O-Yea!! and i've got loose skin ewww lol... I guess it will be a few more months before it all goes or at least most of it:)! The doc said 2 years, so i guess im rollin right along.. I think most people who are horizontly chalanged lol know what im talkin about when i say it is scay as hell to loose the weight, i've don't ever remeber being under 190lbs ever! Always been big boned lol, so im incredibly scared at whats going to happen even though i have wanted nothing more than to be smaller, not skiny but proporionate.. O yea i know i can't spell lol... Thanks gina, and everyone!!!
