Age 60 is the new 40?

  • Popular Post

Hi all,

Woohoo! I have finished my extensive 'checklist' of tests and exams and classes required by my program, and now waiting on insurance approval and a surgery date for the gastric sleeve. I am hoping for late May 2018 surgery date. I'm 60 - so for me it's now or never. I have stayed motivated and obtained excellent education by listening to Reeger Cortell's podcasts (highly recommend) as well as reading peer-reviewed journal articles, going onto sites like this one, and others on Instagram. I love the before/after pictures - truly some amazing transformations! I'm nervous but ready for showtime! My highest weight is 272 pounds (5'7" height, wearing size 22/3X clothes. My goal is to do the best I can, treat the sleeve well, not overeat, stick to the rules, healthy diet choices, protein, hydration, vitamins, exercise and all that is required for maximum success - so that I am out of plus size clothes, exercising regularly (miracle right there). If weight is a goal, then ideally I'd like to get to at least 170. Would love to have some May or June buddies!

xoxo

Well I had my 2 week follow up today and can officially start some pureed stuff. First up was a tablespoon of pureed chicken breast mixed with a little broth and greek yogurt. So far so good. PA was amazed at my fluid intake (about 110 oz plus 3 Premiere Protein shakes yesterday) and said my weight loss so far was about average. I am really feeling fine....almost like it never happened.

Will be ramping up my exercise over the next couple of weeks.....so far just a lot of walking and some 3-5 pound dumbells for upper body work.

Chicken was a little bland but IT WAS NOT A PROTEIN SHAKE!!!

Hey hey hey you are moving right along aren't you? Congratulations, keep the faith and keep on keeping on, okay? Your Bari-Bud Frustr8???

Okay this is rude but How much have you lost so far?? Pre-op + 2 weeks post-op? Just trying to gauge what I might expect since I’m close to surgery date!!

Not rude at all. From my preop appointment on 4/26 until today I have lost 17 pounds. From the start of my 2 week preop diet until today (4 weeks) I have lost 24 pounds. In addition to the PA I also saw the nutritionist...she said I should expect to start losing a bit more quickly after starting foods but I honestly feel so much better than I did 4 weeks ago that I am more than happy with where I am at.
