Purée phase, not feeling anything?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! first off let me say this website im so glad i found it. it has made my life with the surgery so much better so far!

im soon 3 weeks post op. and ive started the Purèe phase. ive tried eating a coupple of different things like swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes with sauce, vegetables and lamb with sauce all mixed with a handblender.

i was looking forward to getting rid of the "hungry" feeling i was feeling almost everyday in the last week of the liquid phase but... i dont feel any difference from when i was on liquid.

today i ate a decent amount, cant remember the specific amount. but i did not feel full. rather it felt like i was just drinking. i tought maybe i blended it to well ( to the point where i was basicly drinking the food). but that does not make sense. when i stop "eating" its not because i feel full, rather that i start getting nauseated.

on the bright side i can now drink alot and im meeting my recommended amount of liquid.

do you guys/girls have any tips of delicious purèe foods? i like spicy things and was considering tandoori chicken. also did any of you have the same experience as me?

Sorry for any spelling errors im Norwegian ^^

I hear you! If my foods not thick enough I can also basically drink it so I add something to it to thicken it. Soups I usually add a slice of bread or some whole wheat crackers. Definitely not the best nutrition but combined with good Soup etc it makes for a more filling 1/2 a cup meal. Today I had chili & a burrito with hot sauce. The thicker the better. If you don’t want to add those things then maybe blend with less liquid until you reach the desired thickness. Puréed don’t mean it has to be liquid.

I just made some meat spaghetti sauce for dinner. I have a Vitamix Blender & it makes a nice purée out of ANYTHING. I haven’t had a lot of meat at this point but with burger or chicken added it really does hit me like a ton of bricks at the end of a half a cup. My first sensation of being full was (and I’m not making this up) like a small earthquake. I had to pass on the last few bites. I was eating & suddenly it felt like the room was shaking even though it was my pouch saying ENOUGH! I was actually happy to feel it because to that point I felt like you in your above post when you mentioned you weren’t feeling anything. I eat half a cup every 3 hours every day until 2 hours before bedtime. Water has been surprisingly easy & I’ve had no trouble getting in 2 liters a day since a couple of days after surgery. I also get in at least 1 Protein Shake sometimes 2 in a day. I don’t take bariatric Vitamins every day I take bariatric vitamins one day and Calcium the next day. I’ll continue doing this unless my bloodwork says I’m deficient in something. Thicken your meals up or add some meat & let me know what it feels like. I’m curious to know if you get the same sensation/reaction as I did.

I'm just ending my puree stage and have to say that it's been a real struggle to feel satisfied during this stage. The meal that seems to work the best for me is refried Beans thinned out with a little taco sauce or salsa juice (no chunks) and some melted cheese. I've been eating it like 3 times a day though - I am SO ready for solid proteins! lol I've heard it's a different ballgame when that time comes and we will feel restriction.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
