No weight loss first week???

I had surgery a week ago and have only lost 2 lbs!! My doctor has me on clear liquids the first week and I have been perfect - getting over 60 ounces in without a problem and no cheating. I see all these posts about loosing a ton the first week and it's making me worried. Anyone who has been around for a bit care to weigh in here??

  • You will gain after surgery. The weight gain is from the IV and gas during surgery. I gained about 8lbs and loss it within 1.5 weeks. I was pre warned of this before surgery so it wasn't a surprise

  • Thanks Iona & Dimples! Im glad you guys brought that out cause I didnt know that! Sent from my SM-T530NU using BariatricPal mobile app

Yup- those dang iv's pump you full of weight too. Selling from surgery- not sure it adds weight but it makes sense. I remember being so disappointed that I was basically the same weight after eating g nothing for 3 days! Hang in there it will come off! Try to have realistic expectations- these forums are full of people concerned that they don't from 20 pounds in 2 weeks or close to that. Stick to the plan. Stay hydrated and eat your protein and the rest will come naturally.

My doctor recommends that you not weigh yourself for two weeks post surgery. The IV fluids can add up to 10lbs and the time it takes to process that out varies, so weighing in earlier will give you a false result. Hang in there, you're doing great and the scale should show that soon!
