I remember reading that control release meds are bad after surgery. I cannot find that thread and I cannot find it in my materials from doc. Did anyone get an instruction about CR meds?

The problem with these types of drugs (usually has XR, ER, etc.) after the name on the prescription bottle) is that you can't crush or break them. They HAVE to be swallowed whole. If they are too large to be swallowed whole then you need to talk to your doc or your RPh about changing it to a form that you can take.
