So what causes your liver to shrink during the liquid diet? Is it the weight loss it self or just the lack of solid food.??

From what I was told the liver shrinks due to the weight loss. Most people have what's called a fatty liver due to weight. When on liquid diet, the liver shrinks making it easier for the Surgury.

I only lost 6 pounds on pre-op liquid diet. The fluids only gives the liver a break from processing food and therefore shrinks....just wanted to add in case you're like me and don't lose much on optifast...don't want u to worry that u won't qualify if u don't lose a lot of weight on optifast

I'm glad I read this... I haven't lost much on the liquid diet and have been worried my liver wouldn't shrink enough because of my lack of loss. The first week I only lost 5lbs and was extremely disappointed and stressed but reading this helps.
