Surgery Thursday--Questions

Hello, I'm having my surgery on Thursday and have some questions.

1. Did you have to take off your panties during surgery? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

2. Did they give you something as soon as you got there to calm your nerves? I know I will be a nervous wreck and so my blood pressure will be high. I don't want them canceling my surgery because of that.

3. Did you only have Water all day after your surgery or did you go ahead and have broth, Jello or something like that?

4. How much weight did you lose on your pre-op diet and could you tell a difference? I've lost about 12 pounds but there is still a LOT of fat around my upper middle where they will be making the incisions. I hope this is ok.

5. After your surgery, did you sleep most of the rest of the day?

Well, I know there was another one but I can't think of now. If I remember it later, I'll post it. Thanks.

It took me between 20 & 40 minutes to really start waking up, both times. With my most recent, I remember hearing them saying things as I was being wheeled, so it must have been en route to recovery. I guess that's maybe 10 minutes after the procedure ends, but that's a guess. When I could keep my eyes open I looked at the clock, and it was another hour before I was really alert and able to do more than groggy responses or hand gestures.

I thought of some more questions.

Did you have to have a catheter?

How soon could you take a shower?

Did they give you your pain med prescription at your pre-op visit so you could go ahead and fill it or when you were discharged?

Hey Mandi,

The Catheter is your doctor's preference - but most do not use in a short procedure such as this. I did not have to have one for my LB - it is not too bad - I have had one for other procedures.

Most doctors allow you to shower and wash gently over your incisions 24 hours after your operation.

As far as the pain meds go it just depends on your doctors usual manner of doing things. In my office I had one that gave before hand, one that gave as part of his discharge and one that did some of both. Many do give before. You might call and ask.

GOOD LUCK!

I thought of some more questions.

Did you have to have a catheter? Nope - none for me!

How soon could you take a shower? The next day for me - shower - no soaking!

Did they give you your pain med prescription at your pre-op visit so you could go ahead and fill it or when you were discharged?

I had a perscription given at pre-op due to I had to stop some medicines 10 days prior to surgery and another perscription given at the hospital at discharge!

WISHING YOU THE BEST for your SURGERY!!!!!!!! I will be tinking about you the whole day - sending good vibes. HUGS!
