I having an ivc filter placed in the morning then on to my gastric bypass on the 25th.Can anyone tell me what to expect from the ivc filter?

Have you or family a history with Pulmonary Embolism? Only seen these used with extreme obesity or Kidney disease patients undergoing surgery.

I having an ivc filter placed in the morning then on to my gastric bypass on the 25th.Can anyone tell me what to expect from the ivc filter?

I had a vein stripping surgery in 2006, and formed 2 large blood clots a week after surgery. I was also placed on blood thinners for 6 months. I am now off of all of that, and the filter was removed when I finished my 6 month course of blood thinners.

I can tell you that I did not have any pain with it, and there was no pain when they removed.

It's a filter in your inferior vena cava. They just don't want a clot getting into your system.
