Partial denial

After waiting for months, I am waiting for insurance to approve. I have bcbs of MN. They approved the whole surgery but denied the long band. The doctor said that the long band may not be needed but sent in to get it approved. They said the band is to experimental for gastric bypass. So now I have to pay $1800 to get my surgery approved. Anyone else have this problem?
