Change in taste?

I'm wondering if any of you are experiencing this same issue. My tastes have seemed to change. The most obvious of these is: I used to be a daily V-8 and Starbucks coffee drinker. I've had both of these a couple of times since surgery and they don't taste very good anymore. It seems like a weird thing. Has anyone else noticed that things taste differently now?

I noticed a change in my tastes the right after surgery , I had heard your tastes will change but I thought it would take a while. Sweet things like popsicles were WAY too sweet , tea (unsweet) tasted like coffee grounds.

in fact the one day i had a mental break down was the day i could start things like creamy Soups. I had dh make me cream of potatoes Soup. I was all ready for it, when i tasted it I about threw up . It has changed back a little bit but things still taste strange some times. Sweet things still taste REALLY Sweet !!!

Yes. I used to love propel drinks and a certain fruity protein(new whey bullets) drink before surgery, now I can't stand them!

I use to be a Pasta freak, now it tastes like paste to me. Candy also doesn't do it for me and neither do chips. This is something I noticed strongly when the day after surgery. I had simply lost my taste for some foods that I use to love.

I'll take that.

Wow....I thought it was just me! The first few days when I was on clear liquids and eating SF popscicles, the sweetness of them just about made me nuts. I had this weird taste in my mouth for a few days and I just could not stomach another "sweet" thing. Needless to say, my freezer looks like I own a popscicle stand! I stocked up very well before my surgery!! LOL! Although even in my pre-lb life, I wasn't really a sweets eater. I like savory, highly-flavored foods.....lots of Italian foods! Now that I'm doing the mushy stages, I have been experimenting with alot of different recipe ideas. I'll post them on here in a different thread.

I don't know why, but what I think tasted fantastic yesterday tastes crappy today.....

Kathy,

The same thing happened to me. With each moment of the day though it changes now. At certain times things taste normal. In the morning, forget it! Water tastes disgusting. Hang in there it may start to go away. It is slowly for me at times!! ;)

I have noticed that since I have to chew foods very well that some things don't taste good at all. For example I had a bite of my DH pizza the other day and because I chewed the heck out of it the cheese got all rubbery and cold and nasty. I think that is why we tend to eat so fast, the cheese stays hot and gooey. LOL

That is so true! I had the same experience when I tried a little cheese off of DH's pizza. :pizza::ohwell: Yuck!

It's like I have to retry every food. :hungry: They all taste different-- some good, some bad. It's an interesting experience and I'm totally OK with it.

Thank you for all the replies. It helps to know I'm not a total freak and all alone in this. B)
