Question about drinking while eating

I know the big rule about not drinking right before, during and after eating, but at what stage does this rule kick in? I'm 18 days post op and eating soft foods, like a poached egg, cottage cheese, hummus...but still mostly Protein shakes. My diet plan specifically talks about not drinking and eating once I hit the 4 week "real" food stage, but it's not clear about this stage. I was sitting at dinner last night having my 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese for dinner along with a glass of Crystal Light when I remembered the drinking rule. Oops!

Does anyone have some advice on this?
