Locs/ dreadlocks/ dreads

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had their surgery and had their hair locs for awhile? I am beginning the long journey towards my surgery and my hair is locked and has been for about 2 years. I want to know how was your hair during the "hair loss/shedding" part. I am not sure how this would work because shed hair is what makes the locs dense. Did you lose any locs? Did you end up cutting your hair? Did nothing change? I would hate to lose any locs but I couldn't imagine cutting my hair and starting over.

I've had my surgery almost a month ago and I haven't lost any hair. I don't know if it will happen later on, but so far, everything is fine. I haven't changed much at all except for losing weight and not eating a lot. I know of a woman who used to teach my sister, who got the gastric bypass. She lost some of her hair, but it has grown back. If you do lose hair, I doubt it will do much damage. I believe you will keep most of your dreads.

See, now I'm on the other side of this. I've been natural for 6 years, hair is past my bra strap when flat ironed. My Hair loss started right at 3 months, I'm 5 months out now and still experiencing it. I'm talking literal handfuls of hair. That being said I wash my hair like every 3 weeks so it may not be as bad as it seems. My hair is still really thick and I've retained all my pre op length. I was curious about making the transition to locs but wasn't sure how they would hold up with all the shedding. I didn't know if the locs would make the shedding worse or if it would even make a difference at all.

Wait your locs or just hair in general. I didn't know I was concerned until I saw this post. Im 6 years in to my locs and have surgery in less than a week.

hair in general. But if you think about locs, they are going to have a lot of hair that will not be alive and connected to your scalp anymore and turn into dead weight pulling on the hair that is holding on to your scalp. I was told at my first follow up that even a ponytail style or anything that pulls on the hair is going to make it come out more. I have super thick hair so you cant see a difference, but I almost have a panic attack when I wash and comb my hair in the shower. The brush is filled with hair. I only comb my hair in the shower with conditioner in it. Less pulling.

I'm 2 months post op. I've had locs for 1.5 yrs now. I'm nervous about this too. Like could I lose a whole loc? Or are we talking about thinning edges? I know it's temporary but yikes! Patiently waiting and watching. Trying to get all my Vitamins in.

Someone posted a video on YouTube saying their edges were thinning because of the surgery. She ended up cutting her hair, but it could have also been because she didn't take care of her hair that well. Her hair was also colored. So I'm not sure what to expect

I've been loced almost 10 yrs. My loctician told me one of her clients had the sleeve done and all she experienced was some thinning with some of her locs.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
