Mexico, Doctors, and Complications

I'm considering having LapBand done in Mexico but I'm worried about the possible complications. I'm trying to find a Doctor who will help me if a problem should come up, not ignore me. I'm especially worried about erosion and flipped ports.

For those of you who went to Mexico, who was your doctor, what (if any) complications did you have, and how did your doctor handle it? Did they offer to fix the problem for free or at a discounted rate? Were phone calls returned?

Or if you got an infection state-side, how did you handle that? Did you have to wait to see a surgeon for aftercare or did you go to see your GP?

Edit: And FWIW, I'm thinking about Ortiz, Kuri, Rumbaut, or possibly Joya as my Doc. And personal experiences with those four would be very much appreciated.

I don't know a lot about him. I know someone that went to him and she adores him but when asked HOW he is good, she just said he's nice and very good looking. :)

He has a good rep, he works out of an actual hospital, he is indeed a nice guy. Very easy to reach via email, and honestly.. that's all I know about him.

nan42--- i am the same way. my bmi is on the lower end and i couldnt find a doctor in the states that said i qualified for the band. i am being banded oct 4 in tj, mexico by dr daniel huacuz. he has banded several people i know and everyone has great things to say about him and the care you receive. i know his staff as been incredibibly helpful this far.

My BMI is right at 32 I am worried if I do the pre-op diet I will loose weight and they wont do the surgery. should I try to gain a little. How crazy does that sound> Crazy

I'm gonna get slam dunked for this but I'll write it anyway.

Nonononononoooooooooooo! Not Huacuz! Not Huacuz or Lopez from Betancourt. They have the worst reps in Mexico. You want to come home healthy? Go to ANYONE but them.

Okay, folks. Bring it on.

wasa...why do you say this?

wasa...why do you say this about dr huacuz? you are the first person i have found to say anything bad about him and i am very curious!

i know several people who have gone to him with great results and no problems. they have all just raved about what wonderful service and care you receive and how great he and his staff was.

My BMI is 31.9 so I hope he will use a small band to avoid slippage I will keep you posted.
