I am almost 5 weeks post op and just threw up blood. I had been feeling kind of sick today like I had a cold. My throats been hurting and I've been coughing all day. I had not eaten or drank anything for at least an hour before I threw up. When I threw up it was dry heaving and then some blood came up. I still feel nauseous. Has anyone experienced the same thing or give me some insight on what it is?

Call your Dr, call the after hours number.

Call your surgeon. It may just be an irritation from coughing but don't take the chance.

Hi kgd002 - I personally never experienced anything like this and it sounds very scary. Please call your surgeon right away and go to the ER to get checked out.

The others are right. This isn't something to delay. Whether it is related to surgery or not, you need to be examined.

Thank you I just spoke to my dr. He said either gastritis or an ulcer. Either way he upped my nexium dosage and will probably do an endoscopy.
