<p>Hi all! </p> <p>This whole thing is new to me. </p> <p> </p> <p>I'm 56 years old, married for 3 years, and a grandmother.</p> <p> </p> <p>I'm getting my lap band on August 24th. Today I go to the doctor's office for may last visit before the surgery. Part of me is excited...part a little scared. I guess it's just the unknown that bothers me. Not the surgery part...wanting to succeed. I know from reading a lot of posts that it can take a long time to reach my goal. Please, say a little prayer for me. Angel I am being banded on the 24th as well. I can't wait and have no qualms. I have made promises to myself that I will listen to the very sage advice of others who have said "Listen to your body - if something seems wrong, check it out." This is going to be a second chance at a new, healthy life. You have a grandchild you want to see grow up and enjoy roughing housing with - not fun to have to watch life and living pass us by. Hold onto the hopes for the future and look at this as the tool to help you get there! Good luck.

Fear Of The Unknown

I'm becoming more aware all the time of what a buzzkill that is! I don't even think I yet realize all the things it stymies. But last Monday night I was having spasms of it. I was banded Tuesday and felt so FREED on Wednesday! I know there's work ahead. But I know I can make it through.

So can you!

Thank you for those words of encouragement. Yeasturday, I spoke to someone who had the lap band for 3 months. She also had reservations as the surgery date got close. She answered all my questions. She also said it was the best thing she did for herself and she would do it all over again.

I was banded about 6 months ago. I also ran the gauntlet of emotions but everything worked out with no complications. It's very normal to have pre-surgery jitters.

Thank you for your encouragement. I'm felling much better about tomorrow. You're right. Once the surgery is behind me I know I can make the life changes to make it work. Are there any words of wisdom you can give me about the first week or two? Is there something that you can remember that worked, or didn't work? Instead of being nervous...I'm now excited about the future.:nervous (Jane)

I just wanted to check to see how you were doing after surgery. I had the lap band on Friday and came home yesturday. I feel very good. Actually, a lot better then my room mate at the hospital. She had a lot of pain from gas. I was very fortunate and didn't have any gas. I got out of bed and waked 3 times that day. I'm working on getting enough protein for each day. That's really a challenge.

Hi Jane - thanks for asking - I did not stay in hospital - my surgery was done in a clinic and I was discharged about 4 hours post-op. We had a 2 hour drive home, not too too bad although I really felt the potholes. I came home and went straight to bed for about 4 hours and got up for a few hours after that - clear fluids only (water) and more codeine and back to bed. I had a great night and my surgeon phoned to check on me on Saturday - we spent a few minutes on the phone and he answered more of my questions. Stayed up too long Saturday, just lounging, but had trouble getting to sleep from being a bit tender. Today I've been on more fluids gradually increasing to full fluids - I had an applesauce, and a pudding after some chicken broth - can't take any more now and have a bit of a pain in my left side - not sure if it is from gas or too full. I'm just going to wait to have anything more to eat, in case I'm too full. I think I will have a cup of Gardennay Soup for dinner later and add some Protein powder to it - I was a bit dizzy walking up from the waterfront this afternoon.

I'm just so glad it is all over and will now start to see some real changes as I heal - my biggest complaint is the itchiness of the steri-strips - I've peeled most of them off, from the stab wounds anyway - I'll try to put up with the ones over the larger port incision, but no guarantees.
