Scared Spouse

My VSG surgery is April 13. I am not at all nervous and am actually looking forward to this new journey in my life. My wife, on the other hand, is upset and scared, now that the date is quickly approaching. We have two young girls and she is really worried about the risk of me leaving her alone to raise the children. I, on the other had, see it as tool to help me live longer and to be a more energetic and active as both a father and husband.

Another issue that she is worried about is to much weight loss. I have always been a big and very strong guy. I've played a lot of sports and have lifted weights most of my life. She fears I will become to thin.

My wife loves me dearly and I know that is where most of these fears and anxieties are coming from, but it can feel very unsupportive. Has anyone else had any of these issues?

I have a scared spouse also and my surgery date is same as yours. I need to get under control with weight. I have several health issues and pre diabetes and high blood pressure sneaking up on me. I am nervous about doing this but I feel I need to to have better health going forward.

Yes, there are possible risks involved with surgery. Yes, there is a possibility of becoming too thin. Fortunately my spouse is super supportive, and pointed out to me (when I was scared) that I should be more afraid of the inevitable outcomes if I continue going through life the way I have been with my weight up and down and all over the place rather than possible risks that may never even happen. Maybe pointing this out to your spouses will help calm them? It worked for me!

Good luck to you both!
