Pre-Surgery Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am about a month and a half away from surgery--and getting so excited!!--and I'm a little nervous on a few things. I am curious as to how long you feel really tired for after surgery? And what do peoples' exercise routines look like? Not many people have been able to answer this question for me yet, but with taking in so few calories, I was just curious as to how exercise comes in. I appreciate the input!

I didnt but I was exercising pretty well before the surgery. I was in good condition, no diabetes or anything, so that helped. I was back in the saddle quickly. Did a 10K 3 weeks and a day after surgery and was swimming at the 1 month review.

I was unable to exercise at all before surgery. I am handicapped and use a wheelchair, my knees are shot. But, since surgery I have been able to walk short distances and each time a little farther. I guess you need to exercise according to what your body feels like. I always worried about my incision sites but they were fine. As far as after, I was never tired from the surgery. I was out shopping in about 4-5 days. Had to take it easy but I was out there. I did wear out, but just being out there knowing I was losing made me prouder of myself for doing it. I was extremely heavy. I had to loose before I could even have surgery, but, my surgeon got me though it all. He was amazing and his staff was too. Always backing me and making me want to accomplish more. Has this helped you out at all? My surgeon also suggested some exercises as did the physical therapist that visited me during my stay. You need to do what feels ok and don't overdue it. Been there, done that and totally regretted it. By the way, for 2 weeks after surgery I was on Protein Drinks and clear broths. But every surgeon could be different. Hope this helps some. My surgery was at the end of last Aug. Just had my 6 month appt.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
