WLS & College Life

Recommended Posts

Just turned 23 and I'm one month into my 6 month supervised weight loss. I calculated that if things go well I should have my surgery sometime around August/September. My concern is I will be starting Nursing school around that time.

How long after surgery can I go back to school? What if I get too far behind? How has anyone adjusted to college life after WLS(i.e. socializing, partying, dating, etc) As a nursing student I'm sure my life will be extremely busy, but I still want to have fun.

Following because I am really interested in the answer to your questions and to your experience.

I am not a college student but have worked in higher Ed administration and am very passionate about helping college students succeed.

Be sure and explore all of your resources. If you have a disability services office let them know if you need any accommodations, especially in the initial weeks and months after surgery.

Keep in mind that you won't be able to lift anything heavy for about a month (think book bags, etc.).

Also, be sure and schedule your Water, meals, and Snacks so you don't get dehydrated and get enough Protein. Once you are cleared for exercise then scheduling your exercise, just like you schedule a class, will be helpful.

Best of luck with your surgery and keep me posted on how you are doing,

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
