Does Optifast weight loss count towards total weight loss expected after surgery?

I am curious to see if when Dr's talk about your expected weight loss if they factor in weight loss from Optifast before surgery.

We have to be on it for a month here and that could be upwards of a 30lb loss.

Would that weight loss count towards the expected excess weight loss, or does it start from after the surgery itself?

Thanks for your insight!

My surgeon talks about a goal in terms of bmi.

It may vary from surgeon to surgeon, but mine does count pre-op in the total expected excess weight loss.
