Time for Liquid Diet and SCARED... HELP!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am just over two weeks away and supposed to start full liquids tomorrow. I have started Protein Shakes but keep finding myself saying well elt me get rid of all the cravings, or one last "real" meal. SO tonight is it... I am so scared that I won't stick to it. I have been trying to get rid of the temptations in the house... I want to succeed. Has anyone else freaked out with starting the pre-op liquid diet? ?

:help::cry:wacko::heh:

I have been on the liquid diet since last Tuesday. I was kinda nervous about it at first but I have challenged myself to find different "allowable" liquids to "eat" so I won't get bored with it.

There are many different types of liquid diets but the one I am on allows me to have a limited amt of cottage cheese and yogurt so I do get a little variety. Beyond that, as long as it is sugar free/low carb and liquid I can have it.

I have discovered several types of "broth" Soups. I fill up on egg drop Soup and have tried a new recipe that I will soon use as a "gravy" for different meals. I truely loved the taste. Just mix 1 can of Campbells beef consume' Soup (It is a broth type soup but do not use beef broth) and one can of cheddar cheese soup and heat to boiling. I also have added a small can of Tomato sauce to it along with a touch of splenda to take the sour out of the tomato. It is scrumptous. Low cal and low carb.

If you will view it as a challenge, it makes it easier to handle.

Hang in there, you will do great! :whoo:

I'm right there with you! My liquid diet consists of 4 slimfasts per day and all the Water I want! I am sopposed to do 10 days but I thought I would start a day early since I had been so bad the weeks prior, well that day was yesterday and I FAILED miserably! So today is the first day of the 10 days and I have a new attitude and a new outlook. I really would like to say I did it without cheating in the end and from what others have said it is a great way to jumpstart my weighloss. I also got some books from the library yesterday, I love to read so I figured when I get the urge to eat I will grab my book instead. That is the plan so far that and reading posts for support. Good luck to you and know that you are not alone~we can do this!

Post here when you want to eat!!! Really, you will feel like such a superstar at the end of your pre op diet to be able to say 'CHEATFREE'!!!! There is no other feeling like it!!! Hold out, hold on and journal. When it is all said and done and weeks later, you will look back over your thoughts and think,

"what was I so worried about?"

You WILL do fine, you WILL be in bandland soon, and you will have lost a lot of weight to start off with.

Ok so I started this morning, made my first shake. Now my doctor gave me recipes to make my own Protein shakes. I like the flavor, its tutti fruiti. Now here is my problem... the poweder tastes well powedery. I bought the soy Protein powder. I am wondering if the whey Protein tastes better... I have never been a soy person. I admit it though the soy was so much cheaper at trader joes. Sams Club has a great deal on whey protein but its flavored...

Ok so any ideas... help... sugesstions... encouragement???

Thanks guys.

Which slimfast are you using? How do they taste? I am not liking the powder taste... lol.

I too want to do it and be able to say I didn't cheat. I guess the boards and I will be spending ALOT of time together the next few days as I transition from food to shakes... I can do it!!!

Good luck!:whoo:

Well since I'm only having slim fast I bought a variety. Of coarse I've had them before (professional dieter) and I thought I liked the Rich chocolate Royale the best but I really like the Strawberries and Cream and the Milk Chocolate the best. I havn't tried vanilla or Capuccino but I don't like coffee. I'm wondering if I can put one in the blinder with ice for some variety. Also I'm chewing crushed ice when I feel the need for something solid. So far so good.

Good idea about chewing on ice. I don't see why you can't blend the shakes for variety. My doc has me using the Protein powder mixed with either non fat milk, light sugar free juices, flat diet soda, broth, V8, coffee (no sugar) and I can add flavors with the imitation flavored extracts. They do make it tasty.

I never knew how good low sodium instant chicken broth could taste. I am not even through day one and going nuts. I can do this... I keep thinking... wow my before and after pics will be different from even today to surgery day... I should see some weight loss there right? I hope so!

Does anyone know if there is steak broth? Not beef broth... I want steak and potatoe broth... ah man I guess it will be another shake...

And speaking of shakes... are the premade ones less chalky?

Oh, sorry. I bought the Optima since it is sopposed to keep you full longer. However, I am STARVING!! My stomach was really growling today and it has been a long time since that happened. Also the headache....withdraw I guess. I'm actually a little mad about all this now since I think if my doc. had just said lose 10lbs B4 surgery I know plenty of tricks to do that, heck the meat and egg fast would do that and I wouldn't be starving. I guess they have their reasons though so I'm suffering through. I did have some green Beans tonight right out of the jar, I figure they were zero points on weight watchers so they shouldn't count. I will try to make it thru tomorrow w/o the green beans. Hope you are doing better than I am. Im pretty sure by the end of this everyone will hate me as I can see that I will probably be a grouch.

Headaches? I thought I have been hit over the head with a bat. I feel sluggish and irritable... and this is only day one. pardon my french but what the HELL and I gonna do on day 3? :help: I made canned raviolis for my daughter since I didn't want to cook... I just wanted to stick my whole hand in the can and wipe it clean and lick it up! I have to have strength right?

I was reading all over the boards about which docs required pre-op liquid diets or low carb diets and so on... it was hard to see all those who could eat but i know my doc told me that to get a great jump start on the weight loss this was the way! So here I am.

By the way I am drinking a canned Protein shake right now from Trader Joes made by Worldwide its called Pure Protein, 35 grams of protein, 2 carbs... in Vanilla creme... not too bad. Not as "chalky", My DexH told me Protein shakes are meant to be sipped... which is how i usually drink everything. he told me to just down as much as I could. So I am trying that way too.

Ok off to finish my lovely Vanilla Creme yummy shake!:faint::hungry::whoo:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
