Pre op diet

Hi all! I'm just starting my journey with WLS! I am planning on having surgery in May! My doctor is having me do my pre op diet on and off until the surgery. ( pre op consists of protein shakes and veggies) has this happened to anyone else?

Mi believe he is doing this to get some weight off before my surgery, but honestly, it doesn't make a huge amount of sense to me!

My goal was to lose weight.......before/after surgery was of zero concern....simply to lose the weight.

At the begining stages I of the 6+ month program I followed my NUT's calorie restricted diet. After deciding to self fund the surgery date was moved up quickly.

At that point I no longer saw the original NUT and did a low calorie & low carb diet that transitioned into the final 2 week pre-op liquid diet (Protein shakes only).

The result was I lost 58 pounds prior to surgery......and then 58 more pounds so far since my Oct 13th surgery.

Trust me when I say this.......get off every pound you can right now......don't wait for the surgery to do it.

I wish that I'd have lost more before the surgery......for a number of reasons.

What are your number of reasons? I'm struggling to loose the initial weight and my bypass surgery date is February 8. For New Years I'm planning on starting the pre-op diet until surgery date with a goal of loosing 20 lbs until my date. I have a bmi of 41
