I'm am scheduled for surgery in Jan 4th. My surgeon went over the procedure with me and what will happen after. The day after the procedure I will have a Upper GI to make sure there is no leaks. I can't drink anything until the results come back. I understand the reasoning behind it, it just seems like not many have to have one.

Will you have an upper GI after surgery?

That's a good question. I feel like my doctor said he would do a scope (upper gi) to check for leaks. That or imaging but I can't imagine imaging would show a leak. It's good that your doctor is being thorough though ❤️

I had it before surgery to check for several things, including h pyloric bacteria, which I had. To check for leaks, I had an X-ray after drinking a little barium.
