its been awhile since ive been in here. On sept 17 2014 i had my sleeve done. Best thing I e ever done for me. I have lost 110 lbs. I am 13 months post op. i am doing wonderful. I have had some real strange mind things going on. Like I know i have lost the weight but its like my brain hasnt caught up. any body else have these feelings. on october 22 2015, just 3 weeks ago i had my excess skin removed on my belly. and yep it made the thoughts even worse. ....need a little help here.....I still think its the best thing but its just kinda weird. maybe it was because it was so fast. I have also suffered some eating disorder stuff.I am currently seeing a counselor for that. she seems to believe because im a perfectionist that its an obsession with the food. has anyone else had these issues. i do have that this all comes and goes depending on the day. any thoughts support welcomed. Im doing this alone. no one in my family supported me on this idea at all. thanks

Congrats, but I'm a little lost on your weight loss and the ticker (you probably have not updated your status).

Here are some of my questions:

1) Have you had any recent blood work done? Vit. B and D deficiencies checked? (Both can create some muddled thinking)

2) Glad you are getting counseling especially with the eating disorder history. Are you seeing a NUT?

3) What is your exercise? I was surprised how much that affects my mental stability, and I'm wondering if I am the only one.

I am only 3 months out but have started having some of the issues that you are having. I know that I have lost weight I see the scale go down and fit into smaller clothes. I went from a size 18 to a 12. Everyone tells me that they can see a difference... but I don't. Not really. I look at myself naked every day and I honestly don't see a difference. I even took naked pictures the day before and at 2 weeks and 4 weeks post op and still don't see a difference.

I have been thinking about seeing a counselor just to make sure that I don't get into a bad place.

Sorry to hear that your family is not supporting you. We will support you. Counseling is probably the best thing you can do. Congrats on your weight loss and your skin surgery. Hang in there

My obsessions are there and stronger than ever. My mind has not failed to catch up, per se, but I just don't think it ever realized that I got big...there were so many other problems in my life that there appears to have been no room for that one.

I am sorry about the lack of family support. There are two unfortunate extremes in this business...those that think the surgery can solve everything and that it's a panacea, and those that think it is entirely inappropriate and horrible (even if they admit it might help you). Neither is correct. Each surgery does what it does to your anatomy. Nobody operates on your brain. I think it is a good idea to admit that that is a much slower process and that it may not ever come around. Nothing will ever be perfect, especially not in the estimation of a perfectionist, but it gives you a chance at a great life and takes the heavy premium off of completely rewiring your brain. A new mentality, I have found, is good enough.

It looks like you have answered some of your own questions. Changing behaviors is a big part of the process to be successful. Its fantastic that you are seeing a counselor to address your weight loss issues.

You have support on this site. Also with your counselor. You are moving in the right direction,

Jenn

welcome back

your feelings about your body are more common than you think (dismorphia MSP)

as i was in the process of loosing weight

i had trouble "recognizing" myself

realizing i WAS that person in the mirror

4 years later - i know that's me staring back from that mirror

i'm "cute as a button"

you have reached out for guidance with a therapist

good for you - it can be hard asking for help

as with the sleeve, the therapist "assists" you

you have the hard work in front of you

recognizing you have a problems is 1/2 way to finding the solution (something like that)

sorry you never had support from family :(

what are we??

chopped liver!!! LOL

try and find support group (do or do not, there is no try) Yoda

talking in person can be helpful

you have been doing wonderful this past year

keep following all the rules

down 110 lbs!!!

don't look at me, i didn't take them LOL

good luck

kathy

I agree that it sounds like body dysmorphia disorder (BDD). I know I suffer from it now (pre-op). In my head I'm not as heavy as I actually am. I look in the mirror and I feel like my physical appearance doesn't match my vision of myself. Hopefully it doesn't carry over post-op.

It's good you're seeing a counselor. Definitely bring it up to them.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
