Trouble with water

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 days out from surgery and I seem to be having an issue with drinking Water. Whenever I have any other liquid it feels fine but when I drink water it goes into my pouch and feels strange and almost makes me sick... Anyone else experience this? Ideas?

Yes, unfortunately that is pretty common. You can try different temperatures - warm, room temp, ice cold, etc. and see if anyone works better. If not, you may just have to try other things for now. Have you tried Propel Zero flavored waters? They are very good and I could tolerate those well. Powerade Zero worked for me too. Try some tea (warm or cold - Decaf only for now). Or try some Crystal Light or Orange Crush powders. I am about 4 1/2 months out and I just now am really able to drink Water again without it making nauseas.

Thanks! Glad to know I'm not the only one! I haven't tried warm liquids yet, I'll try that for sure, I have tried to add mio water flavor to it and have tried ice cold, I might by some bottled water tomorrow and maybe some thickener to see if that helps.

Try adding some flavor drops to your Water. I have never been able to tolerate plain water and I am almost 1 1/2 years post op. I drank propel and that worked best for me. Experiment with different things until you find your perfect fluid!!

Congrats on your surgery

I had the same thing happen, it is usually the temperature of Water that makes the difference. Especially first thing in the am.

I stuck to only room temp Water in the beginning with the exception of the am. Then I would actually warm it a little bit.

Now it is all I drink with the exception of a cup of hot green tea every once in a while. Even a year out that cold water first thing in the am can cause my tummy to seize a little. I know this because it just happened to me. LOL.

It will get better.

I haven't even had surgery yet and Water always tastes funny and feels weird in my stomach. Like I try to drink 64 ounces of plain Water but I feel waterlogged and like I can feel the water sloshing around. But I add crystal lite or mio and it's just fine. I've tried all temps.

I feel your pain.

@@TristanNicole Everyone's probably tired of me raving about this wonderful Water but I was having a hard time at even 6 months post-op getting Water down. I found Protein2o and it tastes delicious. It has 15g of quality bio-available Protein and only 2 carbs in the 16 oz., 70 calorie bottle. Four flavors and I've tried two - berry and grape splash. Love them both. When I need some extra flavor, I'll put a few drops of SweetLeaf flavored liquid Stevia in them. I usually have 2 per day, so that's 30g of Protein and 32 oz. of water - multi tasking ;) If you go to the website drinkprotein2o.com you can find where they sell them in your area. Been buying them at a local gas station chain but just last week my Walmart started carrying them. Check out my pics and Best Wishes!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
