new from NY

starting the process of weight loss surgery......I hope that this is going to be able to be done because I just want to be healthy again. Looking for a surgeon just moved here from Florida and my new insurance is taking place in November so I am planning on the venture taking place after the fact of getting my PCP on board with the whole thing and getting her to refer me to the surgeon that will take my insurance which is Fidelis care NY. Is there anyone out there from NY with this insurance? If there is how is the insurance to work with?

I am in Seneca Falls

Rochester here. Best of luck, feel free to friend or message me whenever. :)

Not from NY so not much help but I'm newer to the boards too :) Welcome and I hope you get it figured out. Maybe there's a way on the insurance website to look up surgeons? That's what I did because I don't need referrals for specialists with mine so I look them up to see if they're in network then go from there.

thank you all... I have been on the phone all morning and I think I finally got some answers. I have medicare and medicaid and they are both telling me that there is a 6 months waiting period. I have to wait until November when I see my new PCP because there is an issue with the BMI being way too high so there is a chance that the 6 months waiting period might be able to be waived. I cant wait to find out everything

Hi Robin. I'm in Texas here and have Medicare as well. My research on Medicare told me that it varies from state to state and even county to county here in Texas. I'm not approved yet but I'm not having to go the six month route because my BMI is so high, which means I'm really really heavy. Hope it all gets approved this way cause I'm getting close to sending everything in for approval. I'll let you know how it goes and I hope we both get our surgeries soon!
