I had a gastric sleeve with hernia repair on July 22nd 2015.

With no prior problems, after one month post up I had consistent vomiting and nausea, I had many tests and they were all OK so my doctor told me that he should do an endoscopy just to make sure. I had to wait till week 7 in order to do an endoscopy procedure because he felt by this time my stomach is 100% healed. They discovered that I have hernia again

So, i will have another surgery just to fix it and my doctor says it is a very easy operation.

But I am wondering if this happened to anyone before ? And if you did, was the problem permanently fixed? Because I don't want to switch the Bypass surgery

Hernias are easy to get during recovery, it's even listed as a side-effect, I threw up a couple times and thought I got one again. It could also be the way the surgeon repaired it the first time..sometimes they aren't as durable as we'd like. Ways to prevent it on basic medical journals is:

• Wear loose clothing during recovery.
• When your stomach is full, avoid bending over or lying down.
• Do not bend over or lie down for two to three hours after eating.

• Raise the head of the bed six to eight inches by using wooden blocks under the bedpost

• Maintain a healthy weight

I have to have a 2nd hiatal hernia repair also; my surgeon said because I lost so much weight, the first repair (done at the same time as my sleeve July 2014) was basically "undone" because everything shrank. Will be glad to have the major GERD issues gone, but not looking forward to the recovery. Also hope this is the last one!

I had a hiatal hernia repaired with my sleeve surgery, but sometimes, i get an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. It's not as bad as heartburn, just pressure. I was told that the swelling from the repair takes a while to go down and that might be the cause.
