new here with some questions.

Hi

I lived in the Toronto area but last year had to move to Texas. Here they have seminars regularly to talk about lap-bands & some insurances cover the procedure. I had started looking into it while I lived in Toronto.

I was under the impression all lap-band procedures in Canada are self-pay? or has OHIP covered some of these procedures? Last year the only info I found in Toronto was a PS in Mississauga.

All lap band in ontario is self pay. If you want surgery in this lifetime for weight loss you need to self pay in ontario. There is an article somewhere on the boards about a guy who died waiting for the RNY procedure. They only do a few, theres a yearS long list. I guess lapband is 'too new' for them to cover it...but even if they did it would be long wait. I believe Yukon and New Brunswick or something is covered (dont quote me on that) But i think one or two provinces cover the band. Not ontario

Yes, we can buy all the booze we like privately, but can't get surgery privately in BC unless approved by a gov't agency such as WCB. Go figure.
