I'm getting sleeved tomorrow! Its pretty crazy to me. For the past couple of weeks I have avoided thinking too much about it because I didn't want to freak myself out. And now that it's here, I'm thinking about it.... and freaking myself out.

I have a friend that's going with me. My best friend had it done a few months ago and she's the only thing that is keeping me sane right now. I fly out to Tijuana in the morning. Leaving Oklahoma at 6:30 am. (I should be asleep but I'm online talking to you guys). Surgery is tomorrow afternoon sometime. I would like to take a Xanax tomorrow but I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Any helpful advice is appreciated. Thanks

The pain gets easier. I actually feel great today. Getting out of bed was tough this morning but that was because I laid there for so long and got stiff. Nothing you can do to avoid that. I didn't do a lot of rolling around in bed like I usually do. My incision areas are what's sore. Taking deep breaths is kinda hard but it will get better in time.

The first day is definitely the hardest. Every day gets easier. And they will give you stuff for the pain thru your IV. My friend has some stomach pains today but she said it's mild. The pain I felt Wednesday is a distant memory.

They also prescribed B12 shots to give yourself. I forgot to mention that one earlier. I will take pics when I get back home and post them.

Today is the 4th day for you? Thanks for the update. It's great you got some B-12. Those can actually make you feel better at least in IV form. So you're 6 feet - 268lbs? That's not even very heavy. I'm definitely on the lower BMI side. I used to be so skinny and athletic until about 10 years ago. I'm just excited to not be tired all the time.

I had surgery Tuesday afternoon.

268 and 6ft tall may not be that big but I have a big spare tire around me. I've been trying to lose weight for about 7 years now and it's been lose 10, gain 20. My best friend had it done and she was 5'2 170. She was thick but I didn't think she was a good candidate for the surgery but now she looks like a model. I'll post pics of both of us.

Here are the meds they prescribed me. I also bought some vitamins on Amazon. The patches are awesome. Taking pill form sucks but I still have a few I take anyway.

I'm a little surprised ketorolac tromethamine (toradol) is the pain medication they give. I'd prefer something a controlled substance pain medication after surgery. Does it seem to work when you take it? My fear is probably most related to pain. Thanks for sharing so much. Really helps out.

Uhhhh agreed. Torodol is what they give my dog for pain post-dental cleanings. That worries me.

It seems like it's working. One pill a day is all I've needed. Keep in mind your stomach is going to be different and so it may not be able to handle the strong stuff? I don't know that even has anything to do with anything. But it has been helping me. I take one in the morning and I'm good for the day.

Also, a little toke of the marijuana has been effective to help with pain and nausea . Helps with my hunger pains too (it's a hunger suppressant). May not be the same for everyone ???? just throwing it out there.

That's interesting! I don't smoke nor do I plan on it post-surgery but I find it fascinating that you've discovered that as a method to cope with the hunger/pain post abdominal surgery.

And when it comes to the pain medicine, it's largely the brain that plays a part in knowing whether or not you're in pain. Heavy pain medication can really do a number on someone using them for the first time, especially after stomach surgery. However, I have an extremely low pain tolerance so I'm worried toradol won't cut it for me. I'm glad you're doing great though! ????

I forgot about the part where your stomach is smaller. I heard some drugs are too strong/harsh on your stomach in the beginning. I could see how vicodin or oxycodone might be an issue. I have a lower pain tolerance as well. I'm going to ask my US doctor about, and talk to the clinic in TJ.

OKCPaul, I'm in California so I could definitely get a prescription for marijuana. However I'm actually one of the 10% that's allergic too it. Makes me break out in hives. I've heard a lot of good things about it working for exactly what you are using it for. Glad you found something that works.

When I googled I found that many people stateside were prescribed liquid oxycodone or vicodin. OKCPaul I assume they gave you a pain killer IV right after surgery? Maybe this was part of it. I'll ask the clinic, but probably won't have a chance to call until Tuesday.

They give all your medications through the IV. Pain meds, antibiotic, something for stomach acid.... Injected it through a port in the IV.

Pot also gives me cotton mouth so I'm constantly drinking Water, which is helpful.

Not to mention pot is just awesome anyway. Makes TV so much more interesting. Been killin' it with Breaking Bad on Netflix. I'm re watching. I go back to work tomorrow. I do a lot of walking with my job so I'm wondering how I'll do next week.

I'm honestly kinda surprised with how well I'm feeling and well I've done through all of this (so far). My uncle said, "It's like you flew down there and took and nap and came back."

I thought I would be a lot sicker/ tired all the time. I don't feel that way at all. I'm just hungry sometimes and I have had pizza on my mind since last Sunday.

The girl who convinced me to do this surgery tells me, if your hungry that means you need more Water. There's no way you're hungry bc your stomach is tiny.

Are you guys taking time off work? How long?

I work from 4 days a week and Monday's in the office. I'm having the surgery on Saturday. I'll take Monday/Tuesday off and work from home the rest of the week which is computer design. I hope it's enough time.

I also found out in Mexico they don't really opiates for any surgery you have so it's not just the clinics. If having an opiate or strong pain killer is important to you, you'll need to get a doctor here to prescribe some which I might do just in case.
