Exercise and staying on track

Recommended Posts

How long after surgery did you wait to do full blown exercise? And how do you stay successful by staying away from the carbs!! I'm struggling a little bit the last couple days wanting all the stuff I don't need. I want out of this funk!

I waited until after my two week checkup and my surgeon cleared me. As for carbs, its still a battle for me to stop eating bread. I can go without sweets, but bread is my weakness. I'm trying not to be so hard on myself when I slip up, and just start over the next day with a new determination to succeed.

Thank you! My dietician said I'm not getting enough calories to workout and that it may be a few months! I want to get started you know? Maybe I'll call them on Monday and ask if I can again haha. bread is my weakness too. I thought sweets would be harder but there's so many sugar free options these days that you can find something to curb it.

That's true about sweets and all the other choices out there, as for your exercise, just start by doing short walks and as you start to add more calories increase your workout.

I started walking right away and doing 2 mile walks in the first 2 weeks after surgery, then doing cardio workout videos at 3 weeks lol.

As soon a your doctor approves you , you should be exercising the more you exercise and eat healthy the better you will feel and heel. You can always begin with walking and then add on later. I would have never thought I would be a gym nut but i go to the gym 7 days a week or 2-3 hours every day . It is my stress reliever as well as i have met new friends because you will see that some people who claim to buyout friend is not . Good luck everyone.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
