Gallbladder removal and VSG at the same time?

Recommended Posts

Haven't posted in awhile, been a lot going on.....I will post that story eventually because boy is it a story but I want to ask just a few questions first.......

I hope this is the right area to post in.....

So I have been having gallbladder issues ( I'm pre-op)......has anyone had your gallbladder removed at the same time as your sleeve? Any problems? Any tips or things to know? Is recovery harder, with have two things removed?

Also this may not be common but anyone have sleeve, gallbladder and hernia repair done?

And this is off the above topic but hopin some of you have input.....

My job is horses.....my technical title is "horse groom." Now anyone who knows horses knows that that means I'm not just grooming horses all day... I do everything and I mean EVERYTHING! ( i.e. mucking, cleaning, feeding, grooming, raking, picking fields, training, moving hay, the list can go on and on....)

This is my job. I work with my sister at multiple horse farms. So my question is how long do you think with this type of work will I be out? I mean its not like a desk job where I can take paid leave...it either gets done or it doesn't. If it doesn't I don't get paid...My only saving grace is I work with my sister and she will just do double duty so I won't lose my job but I'm scared it will be a long time off......any input is appreciated! Thanks!

I had VSG and hiatal hernia repair at the same time. Not gallbladder removal. I am on Actigal as a preventative. But I didn't have gallbladder issues prior to surgery. My surgeon will not do VSG and gallbladder removal at the same time. He feels that a little bile is always released when you remove the gallbladder and that increases the risk of infection at the stomach stitches.

I have a horse. My horse is currently boarded out but I have worked a horse farm in the past and kept a prior horse self care.

My weight restrictions for the first 2 weeks was 7-10 pounds. I could groom. I could take off the blankets and put it on but was not comfortable bending under the belly to do up the belly straps. DH had to do that. I could not pick feet. Another boarder was kind enought to do that.

My weight restrictions went to 25 pounds for weeks 3-4. I would say starting at week 4 I could have cleaned stalls, groomed, turn-out, pick feet. I would not have been able to pick up a full muck tub or a bag of feed. I was fine with moving a full Water bucket of Water a short distance.

Today is exactly week 5 for me. I have no restrictions as of today from the surgeon for weight. He said just whatever is comfortable. I would be fine picking up the 40/50 pounds of feed, small bales of hay, a muck tub, pushing a wheel barrow, full buckets of water etc.... I would not be trying to pick up 100 pound bags of feed or three string compressed bales for a few more weeks even if it feels fine. I want to make sure my stomach is well healed. I also only rarely move stuff is in excess of 50 pounds so it isn't like I am used to it.

This past weekend I helped roll a 500 pound roundbale from the hay wagon to the truck. I just pushed sideways and used my hip so I wasn't using my core. Just used my weight to get it rolling.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for answering! Horses are my therapy! I just needed an idea of timing....so thank you. Wish I got more responses. Should I have posted somewhere else?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
