Bad day...

I am pissed off and annoyed at the world, im trying to find fuckin job so I have been applying everywhere I can think of. People think that discrimination does not exist are living a fairyland! I am 6’2 348 pounds and strong as a fucking ox, I can pass a drug test and I bet I can outwork just about anybody you put next to me. I am looking for a job that involves labor so I can get exercise in and keep in shape while I am going to college (not to mention labor jobs are the only ones that pay halfway decent unless you have a degree)

I go into these places and get treated nicely and am viewed with interest (you can see it on their faces: “wow, a big strong guy! He even knows how to use the ass end of a shovel! AND he doesn’t have track marks on his arm!”) UNTIL they look at my ears a bit closer and its like a door comes slamming down. WHAM! They start looking nervous and pensive.

Ladies and gentleman, I am hearing impaired, I wear hearing aids (Imagine gasps of horror from prospective employers) but I can talk as well (even better) than a normal person I do NOT require extra help because of my hearing aids and generally do not have a problem even in loud environments because I can read lips.

But they would rather hire Joe fucking blow who weighs 120 pounds soaking wet whose hands are as soft as silk, gives you a dumb look when you tell him to grab a shovel, whines, bitches and moans about his work instead of getting the fucking job done, the jobs is not even done right when he finishes, is always asking for advances on his paycheck because his money disappears up his nose.

Fuck the world

Aw nuts, Derick, I'm so sorry you're having troubles. Applying for jobs can be dehumanizing at the best of times, but doubly so if you're discriminated against for some reason.

I'm hoping there is someone out there who sees YOU and not just the hearing aids.

The best of luck, I'll send positive thoughts your way.

Derick, first of all, quit going to the person in the front office. They've been working there for years and they STILL don't know what is going on. Go talk to one of the foreman. Ask for a day job, to start off. Show him what you're made of. Maybe you'll have to work several "days", but don't give up the ship. When you know you have his eye, ask HIM for a full time job. Oh, and lay it all on the line for him, just like you laid it on the line in here. You'll get the job....and if you don't, f*ck him, too.

I'm so sorry you are going through this difficult time. It sucks that people can't see past that. Despite the antidiscrimination laws out there, people still do it when looking at someone to hire. I really hate that.

Have you thought about going through a temp agency? I have found that more employers are willing to give people a shot if they feel that they are not required to hire them right on. Once they see how much of an asset you can be to the company, they will definitely look past your hearing aid. I'm not sure if there are a lot of temp agencies where you are at. Just a thought.

Keep your head up. Don't let those ignorant people bring you down.
