Looking for friends my age going through the same.

Hi All,

My name is Donna and I'm 61 years of age and this is my first post. My starting weight is 219lbs and at 5'3" that's a lot to carry around. I have probably tried most diets out there and always managed to put the weight back on and than some. It's time to stop the yo-yo dieting and get control of my life.

My journey started on Nov 27th, 2014 when I had my first apt with Dr. Sowemimo. At that time, I was thinking of having lap band surgery. After speaking with Dr S we decided together that the sleeve was the best option for me. So far I have been to one support group meeting where I met people who have had the surgery and were so great about answering questions and sharing their stories. I also attend one of Dr S's seminars where he explained all the different surgeries. I have 2 more appts with the Nutritionist, have had the psych evail, have been cleared by my Pulmonologist, which is really good as I have sleep apnea. I have been to the Gastro and am awaiting the results of the endoscopy. I still have to meet with my Cardiologist, which is scheduled for Feb 2nd. Than hopefully my packet will be ready to submit to my ins co.

Right now my surgery is scheduled for March 18th. I have to say, like most, I am very nervous. I have a very supportive husband and a best friends who listens to all my concerns and fears.

I have been reading all the information that everyone has been posting and have learned a lot. Keep them coming please.

Two years ago I came to visit Florida . I was in Miami Orlando and the floods keys . Had an airboat ride on the Everglades . I enjoyed my time in Florida I especially liked the old Art Deco hotels in Miami and the wonderful beach . Key west was amazing . Only a short distance to Cuba from there ! I hope to go to Cuba late December this year . After this sleeve op there's a good chance I could get to do the salsa !

I was never nauseated at all pre op or post op. I don't know what liquid shakes you are taking but all liquid shakes and all Vitamin supplemets are NOT created equal.

Sample other shakes and see if they make you feel better. I drink Premier Protein shakes and take Bariatric fusion Vitamins. Could you be allergic to your vitamin supplement? Read the label of your shakes and your vitamin supplements as to what kind of protein and vitamin sources they use. If it is a mlik or whey derivative and you are allergic to milk products, I could see why you might feel nauseated. I am not allergic to milk products. There are shakes that have an egg white base, but I have not tried those. Vitamins - especially Vitamin Bs sometimes come from a yeast source - Brewer's Yeast. If you are allergic to yeast, and your vitamin source uses a Brewer's Yeast base, you may not be able to tolorate them. This is only my experience; your case might be different. Ask your doctor and nutritionist. They can give you the best advice for your particular needs.

I'm allergic to iodine and certain vitamins make my stomach hurt.

I got the gummies. My biotin melts in my mouth. I only swallow my thiamin. I take a b12 shot once a month. The citrical comes in gummies. The one a day comes in gummies. Kind of like eating candy.

Just read your post. How are you doing after surgery? I am 5 months post-op and I've lost 66 lbs, starting at 261. I am 61 and feel better than I've felt in many, many years. I hope you have the same experience.
