Does the weight loss look differently post WLS?

I'm going through pics and I'm reading through the threads and I'm seeing that people who lost 50 pounds, you see a drastic difference from the before pic. When I lost 50 pounds in the past I didn't see a huge difference. Does the loss really look differently post WLS?

  • I remember you posting this last month and me thinking 'I can't wait til I'm down 50 lbs!!' And here I am! 8 1/2 weeks out, currently down 55 lbs as of today! I took this pic on Monday though, down 52

  • That was a noticeable difference for me. I looked healthier, started to gave more of a glow.

Unfortunately for me, I didn't see any changes until I had lost more than 30 pounds. I noticed loose fitting clothes first, even now at 48 pounds down I barely see a difference. I was pretty disappointed in the beginning, that it took losing 35 pounds to go down a pant size, but then I decided that was fine, because I am in a better position than I was before and it will only get better. I stopped comparing myself to others' journeys.

I think your starting weight/BMI makes the difference. If someone only has 80lbs to lose, 50lbs will make a huge difference in their appearance. If you have 200lbs to lose, 50lbs doesn't translate the same because it's a smaller ratio.

I have lost 55 pounds in 14 weeks. What I notice is that I fit in pants that are 3 sizes smaller, but I look pretty much the same to myself. Not to others, tho. They see the changes before we do, I think!
