I will be 3yrs out 2/2/15. Now, I'm having problems keep food down. When I eat, maybe about 15 minutes later I began to have this "MAJOR" sharp/dull pain in my lower back. The pain shoots from my back to stomach. Basically, I call it a belt of pain. I hurt all the way around from my back to abdomen. My doc told me that people who have this surgery stand the possibility of having gallbladder problems. Has any experienced this problem or had their gallbladder taken out since having the surgery????? Please help!!!! I hope to see a doctor Monday????????

I have had gall bladder problems and am meeting with my surgeon next week to schedule to have it removed. It is a pain so horrible and I can not quite tell where it is coming from but it is in my upper abdomen and my back. The first time it happened to me someone suggested it was gas but after it happened a few times, I discovered it is gall stones. Each time it happens, it gets worse. The last time I ended up in the hospital for a few days.

From what they told me, if you have fatty or fried foods, the gall bladder compresses (like squeezing a sponge) to try to squeeze out more bile to take care of the fatty foods. When it compresses, if you have stones, they can sneak out and that is the pain that you are feeling. Once they pass through, the pain stops. You have to avoid fatty and fried foods so this doesn't happen. All I had was some mayo that I made into tartar sauce to go with fish.

I can't guarantee this is what you have but this is what happened to me. Stay far away from fried and fatty foods!!!!!

I think you are right. I'm sitting here eating on plain tuna fish in the pack. No problems so far.,,,Thank You Jesus. I'm noticing weight loss but which is not good because you know when you're ill you will lose weight. When you get well it comes back. I pray everything goes well with your doctor visit. When I tell you I had a episode soooo bad this morning....smh All I could do was prop up on a stack of pillows and a heating pad. It will get so bad I have to sit down a lot if times. I'll be so glad when this situation is corrected if it's gallbladder issues.

That pain is the worst!! It had me laying on the bathroom floor in so much pain. Some people say they vomit but I haven't done that.

How bout I went to my doctor for the ultrasound and the results came back as "Gas"and she didn't see anything wrong with my gallbladder....I am not convinced that it's gas. I eat something then my lower back starts hurting really bad but that's gas. A lie.....so tomorrow I have an appointment with my gastric doctor...smh

Yeah, the hard part with the gall bladder is that when the pain stops, everything is back to normal so they can't really see anything. Basically, it is usually gall stones. If/when you eat fatty or fried foods, the gall bladder compresses itself to try to squeeze out more bile to deal with these foods. WHen it compresses, any small gall stones can sneak out. The gall stones getting out are the problem and cause the pain. Once they are out, though, the pain is gone and there is nothing to see. It makes it very difficult to diagnose. People used to tell me it was gas, too. I was recently in the ER because of gall stones and had to go through all kinds of tests, too. And all I had was tartar sauce with my fish that kicked it off. Apparently tartar sauce, or mayonnaise, is considered fatty enough to do this.

Wowww Really....So how did they finally determine it was your gallbladder????

Really just by guessing. lol. They listened to what I said, how I described the pain. Partially, also, while I was in the ER, they ran bloodwork and my liver numbers were extremely elevated. So much so, that they admitted me into the hospital because that could mean an infection or worse. They were even checking for hepatitis though that came back negative, thankfully. By day 2 in the hospital, the numbers finally came down. They could never really figure out what it was, though they assumed it was possibly the reaction to the stones. The ultrasound did show that I have a large stone still in my gall bladder, though large ones are never a problem because they can't sneak out.

So basically, just an educated guess. And the fact that people who lose weight quickly generally have gall bladder issues.

Trust me, the last couple of times it happened, I didn't need to go to the ER but did mention it to my doctor but at that point, there is nothing for them to do so they really don't react, which is kind of what you are getting right now. THe stone has already left the "building" lol so there is nothing more for them to do.

But, to not have this issue, stay away from fried/fatty foods!! That is what really causes this problem.

I really appreciate the information and you sharing with me. I guess I'll see what the gastric doctor says and go from there. It's funny but as I tupe this message, I'm sitting in bed just ate my breakfast sandwich and back is now killing me, Heating pad and propped up on pillows....But it's gas????

I am 1 yr 1 mos out of gastric bypass surgery and on Jan 1, 2015 had a gallbladder attack. I hurt under my right rib cage through to my shoulder blade. I thought it was a trapped gas bubble but it was not gas. The pain also radiated across my stomach also. I had one large gallstone but my gallbladder was inflamed and enlarged so it was removed. Never had any other attacks like this one and I am sooooo glad. Just thought I would give you an idea of what my attack felt like.

Thanks Greenize42....I appreciate your story. Well, with an ultra sound I had done I was told it was gas. I have an appointment on Wednesday the 14th for a scope to see if anything is wrong with my pouch. But I'm still having major pain in my lower back after eating. So we will see....Thanks again for sharing ????

Mine was removed 6 months exactly after bypass surgery

My gallbladder was packed with stones & apparently very sick prior to surgery. I got it taken out at the same time and I gotta say, even through the pain of recovery, I felt a huge difference & Im thankful i got two birds with one stone.

I had horrible stomach pain and was throwing up I went to the ER and was admitted just last week. They removed my gallbladder and I feel great. I had my bypass July 2014
