Purpose of weigh ins

I'm just curious does anyone know the purpose of the weigh ins? I have three remaining and not sure if I'm suppose to be losing weight during this time. What would happen if I gain weight?

    Most insurance wants to make sure you don't gain any weight. Some require you lose a certain amount before surgery. Some doctors also require a certain amount of weight loss.
