Contraception options

Recommended Posts

Hey ladies!

I met with my surgeon yesterday...plan is to get sleeved April 2015. So much went on yesterday that I forgot to ask a few questions. One of them being allowed methods of contraception. I saw in the pamphlet that it said to stop taking oral contraception a few days before surgery and choose a barrier method but I assume that's because they want your bowels empty...not cuz of the hormones?

Anyways....I have an appointment with my midwife Oct 20th for my IUD...the IUD is good for 3 years and I don't wanna get this put in to find out I can't use it cuz it's hormonal and could cause blood clots and post-op complications.

Thanks for your insight!

I would wait until after surgery to get the IUD if I were you. I think they do emit hormones, and could cause blood clots.

Cool!!! As far as I know the Mirena (5years) and Skyla (3 years) only have progesterone...it's usually estrogen that causes "issues"...thanks for your input!

I definitely don't want no surprises...and I wanna follow surgeons rules about not getting pregnant right away.

I have had my Mirena IUD for 3 years now and I love it. I have PCOS and used to have endometriosis with severe heavy bleeding. Six months after having the IUD inserted and my body regulated itself I haven't had another period. No blood. I haven't used a pad or tampon in over two years! By the way, my surgeon has no issue with the IUD.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
