Post-op 1 week - question?

I was banded a week ago today. Everything has been going well. I have had no hunger except what's in my head. I just started full liquids today.

Yesterday I started spotting. I take BCP's and am only on week 2. I was wondering if this happened to anyone else. I know stress can make you spot and I have also heard that estrogen is stored in fat and if you have rapid weight loss it can upset your estrogen levels for a bit. I have lost 10 pounds in this first week. Any thoughts??

Hi

I'm surprised you did not stop the BCPs for your surgery, as they increase the risk of blood clots. My surgeon had me off them for about 2 weeks, I've heard of lots more time than that.

I have heard no explanation for the change we women go thru after surgery, but it does exist. I am on the pill continously, no periods (due to fibroids and endometriosus) and I have been spotting on & off since surgery. I did hear the same thought about the estrogen.

If it continues or gets heavy, be sure and call your surgeon just to confirm.

Best of luck!

Estrogen is stored in the fat cells of our womens bodies. When you lose the fat the Estrogen is released.

And yes if it gets worse or pain is involved then certainly go see your doctor pronto.

Thanks for the info. It has pretty much stopped now. I didn't have to go off any of my meds before surgery. They did give me a shot in my stomach to prevent blood clots though. I have a bruise there that is the size of a baseball. And it's dark purple so obviously my blood didn't clot.;)
