Surgery postponed

I was so excited...surgery was scheduled for July 25, I have purchased all of my Vitamins, and Protein powder. My package was submitted to insurance last week. Yesterday, the nurse coordinator called and said that she was mistaken about my insurance company's policies regarding WLS and that I had to do six months of a food journal and six months with monthly meetings with a nutritionist. First I was shock, then really angry and then really really disappointed. I began this process on April 7, so now I have to wait until October and put all of my notes together for a food journal. Thankfully I have kept notes. But to be all revved up for surgery and have a taken away really sucks. At least it will be cooler in October and extra fluids shouldn't be required.

I feel bad...Sorry for your cancellation or should I say postponement of your surgery.

I waited 4 years for my surgery and then when my time finally came I was on the two week liquid fast and the surgery was cancelled due to an emergency.

Then I waited a few more months and did the two week liquid diet again. Finally my day came on Nov.6th 2012.

Trust me this gives you more of a chance to know what you are getting into. In this case there is not too much knowledge of food, nutrition and and learning about how the body responds to this surgery. Take it and run with it and it will give you some time to start making necessary changes now that will help you in your journey.

Don't be mad or sad...It can really be worse. and now you have an opportunity to fix some of the poor eating habits and change your mind set regarding food! Okay!!!!!! :)

That is a fear I have! My surgery is set for July 8th and I've called the dr's office no less than 7-8 times over the past couple of months checking in to make sure nothing has changed, they're receiving all my clearances, etc. It would be devastating to have my surgery postponed. I am so sorry that you are going through this. Prayers that October comes quickly for you. Take the time to educate yourself- read, listen, learn... attend support group meetings, build your network, keep yourself busy. Time will fly by and in the meantime, you'll be all the more determined and ready!

I feel for you I really do. I am in your shoes now but it wasn't the doctors but my health ins. I got one letter dated June 18 saying I have been approved and I just got one yesterday dated June 23 saying it's been cancelled.. And my surgery date is July 14

2 phone calls so far to my ins company watching the clock to call back

Oh my canceled letter says I am cancelled from July 14 2014 to July 14 2015

It was my insurance company who postponed me as well. My nurse coordinator did not realize that the company required a six month nutrition log before they will approve me for surgery. Now, I'm wondering if they will just deny me or they have these requirements to discourage people from having the surgery. I'm so sorry for you julez, keep bugging the company and find out why you were denied. As for me, I'm working on my log, will continue going to monthly nutrition meetings, and do as much preparation as possible, in the hope they I get approved in October. Oh, I can't really lose much weight between now and then as it will disqualify me...makes no sense to me at all.

I talked to 6 different people at my health ins company and one phone call to the dr.
