full liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

Ok so im 7 days post op and im obviously on a full liquid diet. I have read several different things people have tried during this phase and one food made me curious. My friends made me Soup because they know I can eat it but what about potato soup? If I strained it in the smallest wire strainer would it be ok to eat? So far have tolerated everything I have ate. I know I should probably call my doctor and ask but just wanted opinions on this. Thanks :-)

the rule i was given for liquids is that if you can drink it through a straw, it's okay (but you shouldn't drink through a straw). So I think strained potato Soup would be okay - you just might need to thin it out a bit with some chicken or veggie broth. That's what I've been doing with my various puree Soups.< /p>

I agree with the Sues, be sure to measure 2 oz of Soup. Keep the quantity small, even if it goes down well. Like you said, that may differ with your healthcare team.

I was given the "if it goes through a straw it's OK" guideline, too. I added unflavored Protein Powder to lobster bisque, Tomato Soup, potato leek Soup, hot and sour soup base broth, tortilla soup base broth, strained wonton soup, and every cream soup I could find.... Shrimp, mushroom, asparagus, spinach, chicken, etc. I just had to dilute and strain the cream Soups since they usually had chunks. I stopped straining them once I was on puréed food. Egg drop soup, and blended split pea soup and bean soups were big favs in my puréed stage.

Yeah I have a can of broth I can add to it. Im just ready to have something other than chicken broth, Jello, pudding ect. Thank you so much!

i made potato soup in my crockpot then blended it really well so no bumps and doing just fine. I think as long as it is blended and you don't have chunks of potato you will be fine.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
