Pre-Surgery Diet

What is the insurance trying to find out with the pre-surgery diet? If I am on the borderline of my BMI being 40 does losing weight in the 6 diet disqualify me from surgery? Any information is appreciated.

My surgeon told me that they would use my initial weight for insurance purposes - and that it wouldn't hurt if I lost weight before surgery.

That's encouraging. Thank you for your reply.

My surgeon told me that the waiting period is for the insurance company to see that they aren't wasting money...that you can show are fully aware of and committed to the lifestyle changes you will have to make post-surgery. While there was no set amount of weight loss required, I was told that if I gained weight in those 3 months the insurance company was likely to rescinded final approval.

I have to lose weight - I think its 12% total body weight as part of the 6 months observation period for my insurance. finding it hard!

I'm not sure if this will help but I just ordered from www.protifoods.com for post-op. If I had known about it sooner I would have used it. The variety of products (including pasta and pizza) that they make is impressive. They are all really high protein and very low carb.

My insurance didn't really tell me anything about losing weight.. Even though I lost 9 lbs I gained back.. Idk why I was following it all.. Let's see hope for the best.. I have Health First NY .. I meet with my surgeon this Wednesday.. Fingers crossdd
