Anyone from Rhode Island/New England area?

I'm just starting my journey (over).... I went through the entire pre-op testing almost 3 years ago but didn't go through with surgery because I learned I was going to lose my health insurance 2 days post op, so I didn't go through with it. Now I'm starting over again with the dietitian, psychological evaluation, gallbladder ultrasound, etc. The gastric sleeve is the procedure I have decided on and just barely made it with the minimum BMI (down 20 pounds from last time)! Since I am new to this app I am looking for support, understanding, and encouragement of those going through similar situations and struggles.

  • Hi there! I am from Maine. I started out with a low BMI too. Have been very excited to see the health and physical changes afforded me by the sleeve. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

I had dr Krueger as well he did both my sleeve and later my gallbladder surgery as I had to have it removed after surgery

I hear that gallbladder surgery is needed for a lot of bariatric patients. I had mines removed years ago and it was extremely unpleasant. I couldn't imagine having it taken out right after bariatric surgery. You look fabulous I'm glad it all worked out for you

I'm in Pascoag going through Dr. Pohl. Everything but my last 2 nutritionist appointments are already completed!

My name is Becky From RI and am considering Dr Pohl. I know someone who had him and was thrilled. I have my seminar date as 2/11.

Good luck to all!

Im in St Albans, Maine going thru pre-op at EMMC in Bangor. I cant wait to get this done and to get healthy!

Hi Becky!

I finally finished all my insurance and surgeon's requirements, but it took 15 months!! Almost there though. I have Dr. Pohl as my surgeon too, he's great. I'm in East Greenwich.

Good for you Jess! Congrats and keep us posted!!!!

I'm so close! 15 days till surgery!!

Congrats Jess and magnificent! Would love to hear your progress! I have two nutrition appts then I schedule surgery. Don;t know how long the wait will be. I also have Dr. Pohl!

@@BeckyP123, once my NUT appts and other prelims were done, they submitted my file to insurance. I was approved the next week, then an appt was made with Dr. Pohl to go over the surgery one more time and discuss any findings from the workup. At that point he was scheduling out 1 mo for the appt, then 1-2 months from then for the surgery. And I couldn't book the surgery without speaking to him first in person, so that was annoying. Since I absolutely needed to have the surgery done before July for work purposes, Mary was able to squeeze me into the pre-op appt the next week, instead of a month later. Then after the appt it took a week before they called me with a surgery date, 6 weeks out. So once the NUT appts are done you are likely looking at 2-3 months till surgery. Though I believe that they are hiring a second surgeon soon, so that may cut down on the wait time! Good luck!
