I had my sleeve on May 7th, 2014. To my surprise it has gone really well. I did not have any pain medication until I got ready to leave the hospital (I think that was just because I thought I should have some). And there after really had no need for any. And believe me I am not one for pain. I have 5 small incisions that were covered with a glue type sealant. My doctor gave me a prescription of a cream for the scar that was for pain and another for the scar to heal better. I have B12, prilosac, Iron , Calcium caltrate, and Vitamin D. I think I am most impressed with the lack of pain. I still have a hard time scarfing down ALL 60 grams of Protein because it is almost like my stomach crittles up when I drink something. I don't have a lot of energy either probably because of the lack of protein. I WAS (Lord, knows if I will be now) a BIG Mexican food eater. I could eat it Breakfast (breakfast burroto, etc), lunch (tortilla Soup, etc) and dinner (enchalidas, etc). Has anyone had any trouble tolerating Mexican food? Any other tips for post op?

Hi! I had my sleeve done on May 6th. I agree with you that it is 10 times better than I thought it was going to be. My biggest challenge is finding people I can get advice/support from you have been through it and/or going through it. Hence the reason I joined here. :) I also have 5 incisions with the glue on top. Had a drain as well but that was removed Monday. What a weird feeling!!! Getting the Protein in is brutal lol. Drinking constantly is a massive change as well. My stomach does the same thing yours does!!!!! Still!!! I thought by now that feeling would be gone, but my friend said it takes a bit.

Im looking to find ways to figure out a good portion to eat. I was given clearance to eat Soups that are pureed, as well as Protein shakes and smoothies, but i can't seem to figure out a good portion size!!!!

Good luck to you! and I hope to continue this journey with you as well :)

9 weeks out and no trouble with Mexican food. It just looks different now. I just finished my 1/2 cup of Healthy Choice chicken tortilla Soup. My only problem was that I was eating too much soup because I wasn't measuring in advance of eating. It's so different to make a meal from 1/2 cup of anything.

Good luck to both of you and welcome!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
