Constipation

I'm just over a year post op and have developed severe constipation and an ileus. Anyone else have this happen? I can't poop to save my life! I drink plenty of fluids.

For the 9 months post-op, I had a lot of trouble going to the bathroom. All my life I'd never had problems going to the bathroom and I couldn't understand why people took reading materials in there with them. When I had to go, I had to go, no messing around!

After surgery, I had to retrain myself to go to the bathroom at the slightest hint that I needed to go. 17 months later, I still have to sometimes go to the bathroom, strain (to kinda prime the pump! ;)) and then come back later to finish the job.

I've had to really up my fiber intake to solve the problem. Most of my meals include one of these: beans, lentils, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, or salad fixins.

I've always had a problem with constipation even prior to surgery. Now, some days are better than others. But, I do not go every day, only every 2 or 3 days. I'm jealous of those that can go more often, LOL.

I add ground Organic flaxseed to my Chai tea in the mornings, and also have a Quest Protein bar. They have like 17 or 18 grams of fiber.

I had terrible constipation problem as soon as I came out of surgery. It did not resolve with any prunes, Fluid increase, teas, etc. I finally started Miralax. I need to use it daily or I back up again. Good luck to you.
