Scared..Surgery in less than two weeks

I am a newbie to this site, and I have to say it has helped a lot with my emotions. But now I feel the need to share. I am scheduled for surgery on 5/6/14 at Noon. I am on day three of the pre-op diet and it is going OK. Getting food headaches today, but I know they will pass. I am having a constant struggle with my nerves and I keep going back and forth trying to decide if I am doing the right thing. I worry I will miss food too much post surgery and will fall into a deep depression. I enjoy food, obviously, that is how I got this way, and I worry once I can't have a lot of food anymore, that I will find myself not being able to enjoy food. When I go to Altantic City, I enjoy going to the buffets. On vacations I enjoy good food. I worry with the sleeve I won't be able to enjoy that kind of stuff anymore. I know they are small silly worries, but they make me change my mind on almost a daily basis. I think ,should I have the band, since it is reversable? Having 85% of my stomach removed seems so drastic. I made this decision on my own, but I keep doubting myself.

Can anyone help give me some peace?

  • Hi Kelly and welcome, I've been feeling the exact same way but, for years. My niece had her sleeve done 3 years ago and I've gone back and forth on doing it since then. In that time frame I have al

Wow. Post op i was only allowed to drink my Protein. I was 2 weeks post all liquid. You're lucky if you get to do yogurt and stuff already. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, my surgeon says to eat whatever you can tolerate after you get out of the hospital. Says it leads to less food intolerances later on. So far the yogurt goes down best, but I've also eaten pureed Soup, and mashed potatoes with protein powder mixed in.

Awesome Maltese gal! Tonight I am compiling my list. Shopping tomorrow for the essentials. Gas X strips, Chapstick, stuff like that.

I did the same thing, I even bought my baby bowls with lids and baby spoons for after, have put stuff in my bag for hospital already too lol

Well, I am two days post op. Still swollen and mild pain, but doing much better. Having a hell of a time getting in my liquids and Protein as I am just not hungry. Plus I have been drinking too fast and causing pain. How is everyone else doing?

Congrats on becoming an official sleever!!! I know your having issues with liquid intake and protein, we all went thru it. Dont worry with time you will be able to reach your daily goals. Dont gulp down anything, sip slowly cause the pain isnt worth it. You will get your hunger back eventually but nowhere near how it was before. As far as your protein just sip it thru out the day, you dont have to drink it in one sitting. Trust me protein always felt heavy on my tummy and most everyone had issues with it at first.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!
