Well, heck.

Apparently, I have a hiatal hernia that I didn't know about. I thought it was just possible GERD, since I've been going through my Tums fairly quickly. I don't know why I'm surprised, though, since both my parents have hiatal hernias. Must be genetic.

Do you guys think this would have any impact on whether or not I get approved for surgery?

Are your parents heavy? It's pretty common to have a hiatal hernia when overweight.

I didn't know I had one and my doc fixed it during my banding. It requires a suture and you are good to go.

It shouldn't affect anything but your doc's bank account. They usually charge to put that single suture in.

Yeah, they're both heavy.

I had one, they didn't even know it until he was in surgery, then he came out and told DH they had to fix it or I couldn't get the band. They fixed it all in one surgery! Good Luck!
