Tips from success stories

I am having surgery April 2nd and am 23 years old. My starting weight is 329 lbs and my goal weight is 151. Obviously I know this will be a long process and everyone is different but I am looking for helpful advice from those who have a significant amount fast, like 100 pounds in the first six months and numbers like that. What diet did you follow- 3 meals a day or 5 meals? When did you start working out and what did you do to start?

Like I said I know everyone differs but would love some insight!

  • So ... what do you say we get back on topic ... Secrets to success ... First off, I would say, right sizing expectations. I would question why you are wanting to lose 100 pounds in 6 months? If

  • Hmmm ... I haven't heard about the hormones changing ... for either men or women ... for any WLS. I know there is a flood of hormones stored in fat released, which I believe is the major contributing

  • I disagree with you. I prefer to listen to MY DOCTOR who has a VERY stringent plan and I have followed it to a T. I don't really think you should be giving medical advice here

and to add, the first week I could not DRINK enough to stretch my pouch, I sipped and sipped.......just as my doctor told me to do.

Licensed practical nurse, I assume not specializing in Bariatric Surgery and certainly not a doctor

I don't think you can say that across the board. Each patient should follow their own doctors orders. Mine had me doing protein shakes as soon as I was released from the hospital on day 3

I had my very first protein shake in the hospital, the day after surgery. I agree, each patient should follow their OWN doctor's orders. We chose them and they know us. :-)

I agree with Smily! Sillyolme, you should not be dispensing medical advice. You aren't a doctor or a bariatric nurse for the doctor of anyone on this forum and you shouldn't be confusing everyone. We all need to follow our own doctor's orders!

Check out diet meal plans from playstore...do your research...again up to you to do as you please and what your dr suggests..pls stop bullying and trying to disqualifying my knowledge, education, priffessionalism and the yrs of research i did bf i had my op...its obvious many of you have not sekf researched and are counting on one person...so if u didnt want others suggestions or opinions why did you post for help?

Btw i hace NOT given out any MEDICAL advice....

I did a lot of research but I paid my doctor the big bucks because he does this for a living, not on a message board. You DID give medical advice......btw...ck your spelling before you speak of "professionalism".

As someone else said.....we follow our doctors advice because they KNOW us and our unique case. We do not all fit into your cookie cutter.

I thought you were done posting here. <_<

I am going to "unfollow" this post but if I knew who to report you to on this board, I would do so.

Sillyolme, no one is bullying you! And you have been giving medical advice to EVERYONE on this forum! Most of us have done a LOT of research before taking the step to have weight loss surgery. Like Smily I am paying my doctor for his years of experience with hundreds of patients. I'm Positive he and his staff have more education and experience in the weight loss surgery field than you do! I know you mean well, but your advice doesn't always agree with what our doctors and their staff recommend. I plan to follow my doctor's instructions to the letter. If someone wants your advice maybe you could private message each other.

Seems like we should be free to post what we think in this forum- and we are equally free to ignore what others post. I'm pretty sure we all have doctors we paid, and we all should follow their advice.... so why have the forum at all? Variety. I say live and let live.

Yes, we should all be able to post our opinion; however, we should not be telling people that their doctor, nurse or nutritionist is giving them the wrong info. We need to follow our doctor's instructions. Enough said.

No doubt. I'd be ashamed if I didn't follow my Drs instructions and something went wrong. I can just see it now... "Did you take the Vitamins we gave you?" .... 'no I chewed some flinstones'..

How embarrassing would that be???

No one is bullying you. You generously offered your opinion, others offered theirs. I'm positive that most people here have done their research just as you have done yours.

Personally, I chose to follow the advice of my surgeon, who has performed 1000s of surgeries with no leaks. His knowledge and success mean far more to me than the suggestion of a stranger on the Internet. No offense intended by that at all. I'm sure you'd agree that I'd be quite silly to entrust my life to someone on the operating table, but not his follow up advice. :D

If one has surgery in Mexico and says "No followups needed unless it is a tummy tuck or something like that", then no wonder ....well you know. Read the profile. It isn't so as mentioned before. PM me if you are confused.
